Is an on-premises 2FA solution right for you

November 18, 2021Mercedes Chircop

Are you looking to protect valuable assets and reduce the risk of account takeover with strong cyber security measures? Or maybe you’re looking for an on-premises solution that adds a layer of MFA to any RADIUS speaking service? Many companies have lots of unanswered questions about whether an on-premises security solution is a good fit for them. We’re tackling those questions below!

First let’s take a look at why access security is important. Every company has digital assets to protect whether it’s confidential information, finances, employee information etc. If your company is ever the victim of a data breach, that can cause some serious damage such as lawsuits, lost work, and penalties for non-compliance to name a few.

Access security controls who can and cannot access IT assets and provides a safety net that prevents unwanted consequences. In some cases, companies tend to skip basic security or may just go with a password only approach. A password only approach however, makes your information more vulnerable in the long run.

That’s why companies that are serious about access security implement a second factor of authentication, known as “2FA” or “MFA”. These 2FA solutions often offer different types of authentication options, such as push notifications, desktops, passcodes like SMS and email, phone calls, security keys, hardware tokens, and emergency bypass codes.

Almost all 2FA solutions operate by connecting to the cloud to protect company accounts and systems. While this works for many, some in high-security environments, such as government entities, telecommunications companies, nuclear facilities, manufacturers, and companies limited by regulations on cloud computing, need another 2FA option.

That’s where on premises technology comes in. On-premise (or sometimes called “on-premises” or “on-prem”) as defined by Webopedia refers to “software and technology that is located within the physical confines of an enterprise often in the company’s data center as opposed to running remotely on hosted servers or in the cloud”.

Cyphercor’s new product LoginTC Managed does just that.

LoginTC Managed is a fully on-premises two-factor authentication solution that adds a layer of MFA to any RADIUS speaking service. It’s an enterprise solution designed with high-security environments in mind. If insurance companies or government regulations are preventing you from acquiring a cloud-based 2FA solution to protect your data, then LoginTC Managed is the solution for you.

A wide range of authentication options are available for LoginTC Managed as well. Your users can authenticate with hardware tokens, an email one-time passcode, or a software-based one-time passcode, or an emergency bypass code. It works with the LoginTC RADIUS connector; our RADIUS authentication server proxy. This is a complete two-factor authentication that is set to run within your corporate network.

There are many benefits to using LoginTC Managed for your on-premises MFA needs.

  • Zero external dependencies.
  • You’re in full control of the solution.
  • It allows you to leverage your existing infrastructure.
  • Virtual appliance and standalone deployment options.
  • Simple administration for smooth setup and operation.

How does LoginTC Managed compare to the existing offering of LoginTC?

As we know, LoginTC is a 2FA solution that is designed for businesses of all sizes. It leverages cloud computing and mobile devices to deliver the most secure online experience to workforce users. It leverages cloud computing and mobile devices to deliver the most secure online experience to workforce users. For end-users, LoginTC is a mobile or desktop application installed on their mobile device or desktop.

LoginTC works with different types of authentication solutions such as push notifications, desktops, passcodes like SMS and email, phone calls, security keys, hardware tokens, and emergency bypass codes.

This solution also allows small businesses to obtain an enterprise solution without the need for enterprise-level hardware. A key function is that you can access your network from virtually anywhere because the traffic from LoginTC is established in the mobile and chrome networks worldwide.

How can you decide if an on-premises 2FA solution is right for you, or if you should stick with a cloud-based solution?

If you’re looking for a two-factor authentication solution that can be accessed anywhere and it doesn’t need to be on premise, then cloud-based is best for you. If you’re a larger, more high-security focused company or organization looking for a solution that is on-premises and doesn’t use an external infrastructure, then an on-premises solution is the way to go.
